Speaking on behalf of the Katikkiro at a ceremony held at the Buganda Kingdom headquarters in Bulange, Mengo, the Speaker of the Buganda Parliament, Patrick Luwaga Mugumbule, urged residents to see these contributions not as a tax but as a personal responsibility to support the Kabaka’s vision for community development.

“The contribution is not a tax but the responsibility of every person of the Kabaka to support the community, as how one contributes reflects the example they set in their area,” Mugumbule said.

He added that this fundraising is part of a broader effort to strengthen Buganda’s foundations. He encouraged parents to actively participate in their children’s education, uphold cultural norms and family values, and support initiatives that maintain traditional Buganda practices.

According to Mugumbule, the success of these programs heavily relies on the generosity and active participation of the people.
